Peter A. Hill
August 24, 1968 – January 7, 2011
Peter Alan Hill died at age 42, surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. Survived by Kim Salmela; his parents, Jeff and Laura; brother, Jeffrey (Diane Ogren); nephews, Robert, Collin, Devin; many other family members and countless close friends. Peter was an Evans Scholar and founder of Peter Hill Design.
Peter embraced life and all its challenges. Peter’s love of life was inspiring to all who knew him. He had a way of touching deeply everyone he came in contact with. He will always be remembered for his beautiful, infectious smile.
Peter was an east-side boy who grew up playing hockey, but broke the mold with his good looks and charm. His killer smile will forever be his trademark. He went to Johnson High School and was an Evans Scholar, graduating from the University of MN with a bachelors degree in liberal arts. He worked for a few years as a graphic designer at Minneapolis design firms, but his entrepreneurial spirit kicked in early, prompting him to found his own design and marketing business at the age of 25. This eventually became Peter Hill Design, and with a talented and dedicated team, produced a number of award-winning designs.
Peter loved being active: playing golf, biking around the lakes, walking to work, skiing, and working out. He became a lover of fine foods, and made a mean grilled salmon. From leading the neon trend in the ‘80s to graduating to bespoke suits, and acquiring a collection of vintage watches and cuff links, Peter always cared about style.
Peter had a gift in being able to make and maintain true friendships. His genuine interest in people allowed him to connect with those of all ages and backgrounds. The collection of friends that he leaves behind is the truest representation of who Peter was.
Memorials
Donations may be sent in Peter’s name to Western Golf Association/Evans Scholars Foundation, which awards college scholarships to caddies from modest means.
